Indian Institute of Technology Mandi

Indian Institute of Technology Mandi (IIT Mandi) is a research-focused institution and one of the newer, second-generation IITs established by the Government of India. Established in 2009, the institute is located in the scenic Kamand Valley of Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, approximately 14 km from Mandi town.

IIT Mandi aims to combine high-quality education, advanced research, innovation and entrepreneurship to address contemporary challenges in science and technology. Since its inception, the institute has developed collaborations with universities, research centres, companies and organisations in India and abroad.

The permanent campus is situated along the Uhl River and comprises North and South campuses surrounded by the Himalayan landscape. Its location also provides a distinctive environment for research and academic work related to the Himalayan region and sustainable development.

The institute became an Institute of National Importance under the Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, with the legislative process completed in 2012. IIT Mandi has since expanded its academic and research activities across engineering, sciences, management, humanities and interdisciplinary technology areas.
